Compare Local & Default Assets

The Compare Local & Default Assets page allows users to compare local changes to default knowledge objects, ensuring transparency and control over the customization made in your environment.

When a customer or deployment engineer modifies a default knowledge object, a local copy is created. As a result, the environment will no longer receive updates made to the default version during app upgrades. This page enables users to track and compare the differences between the default and local versions of specific assets.

Key Features

  1. Local Changes Overview: The dashboard displays a list of knowledge objects that have been modified locally, including:

    • Saved Searches
    • Macros
    • Lookup Definitions
    • Event Types
    • Dashboards
  2. Side-by-Side Comparison: The page splits into two sections, offering a side-by-side view of the default version and local version of each asset for easy comparison. This enables users to quickly identify any changes that have been made locally versus the original default.

  3. Visualizing Differences: In addition to showing the default and local versions, the dashboard highlights the differences between them. This can include changes in configuration, settings, or customization, allowing users to assess the impact of these modifications.

Page Layout

The page is divided into two main sections:

  1. .conf Files Here, users can view the default and local versions of configuration files, such as saved searches, macros, and event types. This section focuses on comparing the underlying configuration of these objects.
  2. Dashboards In this section, users can compare dashboards that have been altered from their default state. It includes a detailed view of any visual or functional differences between the default and customized dashboards.

Why Use This Dashboard?

Tracking modifications to default knowledge objects ensures that your environment stays consistent with the original app configuration. By using this dashboard, you can make informed decisions about whether to retain, modify, or revert local changes, especially when preparing for app upgrades or troubleshooting issues.
